Azerbaijan Fish Farm – Trip with ADA – Photos

Yesterday (April 21), we had a really interesting trip to the Azerbaijan Fish Farm at ADA University. So basically, this trip was actually meant for Animal Science students. But I thought, since I’m already there, why not just go too.

After a 2.5-hour drive, we arrived in Neftchala. At first, from the outside, it looked like a pretty simple building, but they were keeping sturgeon weighing hundreds of kilos inside.

So first, Mr. Elshad (apparently he’s also an ADA student) had a little chat with us over tea about fish and animal science and answered our questions. Then we went to see the main part, but before that we had a short talk and presentation as well. He told us about the farm and showed us the technologies used for the fish.

After that, we finally went to see those massive sturgeons. So there were all kinds of them — from 5-day-old ones to ones that were around 10 years old. Honestly, it was my first time seeing a sturgeon, and I’d say they’re created in a really fascinating way. The fish were kept in circular aquariums with a radius of about 3 meters. (To be honest, I don’t think this is exactly the best method. But I’ll talk about that in episode 2 of our “The Dorito Effect” series soon. I’ve left the link to episode 1 below.) Then we also took another look at some of the technologies.

At the end, we went to the seaside aquariums. This part was actually pretty interesting too. To be honest, we didn’t see that many fish there, but the ones we did see were quite interesting. There was even one thing I didn’t really understand, why the fish there were swimming by rubbing. (Unfortunately, we were not allowed to share pics from farms)
